Borsdane Wood

This painting captures the early morning light, flickering through the trees, creating shades of different colours and the yawning awakening of the carpet of bluebells. A truly special place.

BLU

Blu, the Grey Weimaraner lives in Malta with his owners. The moment I met this majestic, gentle giant, he inspired me to paint his portrait.

MISTY

Wiltshire and Somerset have some excellent and renowned racehorse stables and I have been lucky to visit a few. Misty is just one of the beautiful, serene, but powerful horses which provoked a great feeling of admiration and respect in me.

CAROLS AROUND THE TREE

This is one of my latest works, which was inspired by the annual gathering of villagers around Beckington Christmas Tree.

If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.

– Edward Hopper

To my mind, a picture should be something pleasant, cheerful and pretty. There are too many unpleasant things in life as it is, without creating still more of them.

Pierre Auguste Renoir

About Melvin

Hi, I’m Mel, I was born in Oldham, a town in Lancashire that was once renowned for its textile mills. From a young age, I had a keen interest in art.

During my school years at Princethorpe College in Rugby, I was fortunate to have an inspirational teacher who taught me about all aspects of art history, fine art, and different techniques. This led me to study Art and Pottery at Liverpool University’s Christ’s Teacher Training College.

After leaving university and entering full-time employment, painting had to take a back seat. I became an MD for several companies, including Ilchester Cheese, and Burts Chips for over 30 years, then owned my own Cheese business for 14 years. However, now that I’m retired, I’ve been able to return to my great love of painting and drawing.

On this website, you’ll find a collection of my recent works, including landscape, portrait, and animal commissions.

Please take a look at my work, and if anything catches your eye, do get in touch. I’m always happy to discuss commissions, and both original works and prints are available for purchase.
