Hello,
I’m Mel
I was born in Oldham, Lancashire, a town once known for its textile mills. Art has always been a part of my life, and my interest in it began early. During my time at Princethorpe College in Rugby, I was lucky to have an inspirational art teacher who opened my eyes to fine art, art history, and creative techniques. That experience led me to study Art and Pottery at Christ’s College, part of Liverpool University.
After university, my career took a different path. For over 30 years, I worked in the food industry, becoming Managing Director for companies such as Ilchester Cheese and Burts Chips, before running my own cheese business for 14 years. Painting had to take a back seat during that time, but the passion never left me.
Now retired, I’ve returned to painting full-time. My work covers portraits, landscapes, pets, and animal paintings, subjects that allow me to explore light, texture, and emotion. Each piece is created with care, often inspired by the people, places, and countryside around me.
Art has always been part of my family. My late father, Mike Glynn, was a talented painter whose Legacy Collection now features in my range of greeting and Christmas cards. His dedication and love for painting continue to guide my own work.
It’s been wonderful to see that creative spark pass to the next generation. My granddaughter Sophia has developed her own artistic talent and launched her own range, Little Brushstrokes, which brings a fresh and playful energy to our family’s shared love of art.
Our family’s cards, featuring artwork by myself, Mike, and Sophia, are available here online, with free UK First Class Royal Mail delivery, and also stocked in local post offices and Trowbridge Garden Centre.
Thank you for visiting my website.
I hope you enjoy exploring my paintings and card collections. If something catches your eye or you’d like to discuss a commission, please do get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
